The Mountain Man was done with Dr. PH Martin's India Inks on acid free paper. It was done after seeing one of my favorit movies, "The Mountain Men" with Charlton Heston and the late Brian Keith. This is my version of Brian Keith.

The other day a short story of mine titled, "My Grandmother's Button Jars" was published and it is a childhood memory of playing with those buttons. Today I was in the mood to paint and decided I would work on a daily painting which is usually a miniature. However, I did this 12" x 16" Mixed Media painting on Fredrix art canvas using Dr. PH Martins Hydrus watercolors and Dr. PH Martins white acrylic paint. I worked about 5 hours on it and I am quite pleased with it and I am sure it will look better when I frame it.

This painting of poppies was painted entirely with Dr. Ph. Martin's Hydrus watercolors. I used pebeo drawing gum to mask out the flowers and pods. I then applied pthalo blue, pthalo green and hansa yellow for the background. While still wet I laid down plastic wrap and pulled it to make the stems. When dry I removed the plastic wrap and painted around the shapes that formed. I then removed the mask and pained the flowers and pods. Voila - my painting of Poppies. Cathy Jones

I've used the same ink bottle to create nearly every single monster chronicled here in this blog. When I walked into the studio tonight I found that the ink had taken on a hideous and evil form of its own. As I backed out of the studio I kept my eyes on the rallying ink monsters and focused my sights on survival.

This painting was suggested by a visit to the California Cavern in the Gold Country of Northern California. I was grabbed by the beautiful rock formations and the designs created by water and minerals over time. This painting is on illustration board, 20 x 30 inches.
